El seu llibre més conegut és Progress and Poverty (Progrés i Misèria) (1879).George Henry (1879), Progress and Poverty: An Inquiry into the Cause of Industrial Depressions and of Increase of Want with Increase of Wealth. VI. New York: Robert Schalkenbach Foundation. És un tractat on parla dels problemes econòmics de la societat del segle dinou als Estats Units, com l'especulació, l'atur i les crisis econòmiques. En aquest llibre també dona una solució a aquests problemes, com posar un impost al valor de la renda de la terraHarrison Fred (2006), Ricardo’s Law: House Prices & the Great Tax Clawback Scam, (Shepheard-Walwyn Publishers Ltd, London) i treure tots els altres impostos que castiguen el treball.
Com a polític, es va presentar a les eleccions per ser alcalde de Nova York. Tot i que no va guanyar, va comptar amb el suport del futur esperantista i candidat a president dels Estats Units Charles H. Matchett.
