Probabile figlio di Sitriuc mac Ímair degli Uí Ímair (sicuramente suo congiuntoDownham C (2007), Viking Kings of Britain and Ireland : The Dynasty of Ívarr to A.D. 1014, Edimburgo, Dunedin Academic Press, ISBN 978-1-903765-89-0, pp. 31-32.), era a capo dei vichinghi dublinesi transfughi in Scozia che combatterono contro Costantino II nel 903, anno in cui raziarono DunkelCronaca dei re di Alba, a. 903., e nel 904, anno della loro sconfitta presso Srath Erenn. Ímar perse la vita in quella battaglia. Si ritiene possa essere stato a capo delle forze dublinesi già al momento della loro cacciata dalla città ad opera degli irlandesi nel 902Downham, Op. Cit., pp. 28-29..
