Studioso delle antiche origini ebraiche dell'ebraismo e del cristianesimo, è noto per aver lavorato come traduttore sui Rotoli del Mar Morto e come ricercatore che decifrava antichi manoscritti ebraici. Ha lavorato con Emanuel Tov, e rimane una figura dell'ebraismo karaita contemporaneo.
