The S.O.S. Band (acronimo di Sounds of Success), precedentemente Sounds of Santa Monica, sono un gruppo musicale statunitense post-disco e funk.
Storia I Sounds of Santa Monica sono stati fondati nel 1977 ad Atlanta da Mary Davis, Jason "T.C." Bryant, Billy R. Ellis e James Earl Jones III. Scoperti da Milton Lamar, proprietario del club dove erano soliti esibirsi e in seguito divenuto loro manager, sono stati scritturati dalla Tabu Records; in seguito all'ingresso di 3 nuovi elementi, hanno assunto la denominazione attuale.
L'esordio discografico degli S.O.S. Band, ovvero il singolo del 1980 Take Your Time (Do It Right), è anche il loro più grande successo: è infatti giunto al primo posto della classifica R&B, mantenendo tale piazzamento per cinque settimane, e al terzo della classifica pop statunitense. Hanno ottenuto riscontri commerciali positivi anche con il loro album di debutto S.O.S. (1980), che ha venduto 800.000 copie, è stato certificato disco d'oro e ha raggiunto la seconda posizione degli album R&B rimanendovi per tre settimane. Nel frattempo, nel corso di una tournée mondiale, si è unito alla band il trombettista Abdul Ra'oof. I due singoli degli S.O.S. Band Just Be Good to Me (1983) e The Finest (1986) sono giunti al secondo posto della Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Nel 1987 la cantante Chandra Currelley ha sostituito Mary Davis, che ha lasciato la band per intraprendere una carriera solista
Il gruppo è tornato in attività la metà degli anni novanta in occasione di una tournée.
