Dopo le prime pubblicazioni indietronica, minimali e a bassa fedeltà, registrate utilizzando principalmente le tastiere Casio, l'artista ha iniziato ad affidarsi, già a partire dalla metà degli anni 2000, a una strumentazione estesa e comprendente strumenti analogici e digitali.
Biografia Ashworth è nato a Redwood City, in California, nel 1978. Ha inaugurato il progetto Casiotone for the Painfully Alone sul finire degli anni 1990, proponendo inizialmente un repertorio minimale e ispirato ai principi del dogma 95. Proprio per tale ragione, l'artista si era auto-imposto di eseguire tracce in do maggiore, brevi e malinconiche utilizzando i tasti bianchi di tastiere Casio. Negli anni seguenti, l'artista si affiderà a un repertorio meno minimale ed eseguito usando un maggior numero di strumenti musicali.
Nel 2010 l'artista ha dichiarato di voler abbandonare il progetto Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Ciononostante, proseguirà la sua attività artistica come Advance Base.
Durante la sua carriera, Ashworth ha preso parte a tournée di altri artisti indie come The Donkeys, David Bazan, Stephin Merritt e Xiu Xiu.
