La Famous Players Film Company era una società cinematografica statunitense fondata a New York nel 1912 da Adolph Zukor in collaborazione con i fratelli Frohman, influenti proprietari di teatri e produttori della città. Nella sua attività ha prodotto sia cortometraggi che lungometraggi.

Storia Le discussioni per la costituzione della società si tennero al The Lambs, un famoso circolo teatrale di cui Charles e Daniel Frohman erano membri. La società si pubblicizzava con lo slogan «Attori famosi in opere famose» e la sua prima uscita fu il film francese La regina Elisabetta (1912), con Sarah Bernhardt e Lou Tellegen. La sua prima vera produzione fu Il conte di Montecristo (1912, uscito nel 1913), diretto da Joseph A. Golden ed Edwin S. Porter e interpretato da James O'Neill, padre del drammaturgo Eugene O'Neill.

Nel 1914, la società acquistò l'ex quartier generale del Nono Reggimento di Cavalleria di New York, situato al 221 West 26th Street a Manhattan. L'ampio edificio in mattoni si rivelò uno spazio di ripresa eccellente per Zukor, e la struttura, oggi modernizzata, è ancora utilizzata con il nome di Chelsea Television Studios.

Assumendo i propri interpreti direttamente dai palcoscenici di Broadway, la Famous Players vantava fin dall’inizio un cast composto da alcuni dei più grandi nomi del mondo del teatro, tra cui Marguerite Clark, William Farnum, Gaby Deslys, Hazel Dawn e H. B. Warner. La società vantava inoltre la più grande star del cinema dell’epoca, Mary Pickford, e scritturò l’idolo del teatro John Barrymore nei suoi primi due lungometraggi.

Nel 1916, la società si fuse con la Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company dando vita alla Famous Players-Lasky Corporation, che in seguito divenne la Paramount Pictures.

Famous Players Fiction Studios Nel 1915, la società fondò la Famous Players Fiction Studios al 5300 di Melrose Avenue a Hollywood. Il primo film del nuovo studio vedeva come protagonista Mary Pickford."Raleigh Studios". . Lo studio divenne in seguito Clune Studio, poi California Studio, poi Gross-Krasne, seguito da Producers Studios Inc., ed è ora conosciuto come Raleigh Studios. Noti per essere stati il set di Gunsmoke, Perry Mason e Let's Make a Deal, si tratta di uno degli studi più antichi di Hollywood.
