A cerimônia foi realizada no domingo, 18 de setembro de 2011 no Nokia Theatre, no centro de Los Angeles, Califórnia, e foi transmitida nos EUA pela Fox. A cerimônia foi apresentada por Jane Lynch. O Primetime Emmy Creative Arts foi realizado em 10 de setembro. As nomeações foram anunciadas em 14 de julho de 2011 por Melissa McCarthy e Joshua Jackson.
