Лжекузнечиковые

Лжекузнечиковые — семейство насекомых из отряда прямокрылых. Более 50 видов.

Описание Ареал: США, Мексика (Stenopelmatinae); Индия, Шри-Ланка (Oryctopinae); Афротропика и Ориентальная область (Siinae). Крупные бескрылые насекомые, похожие на сверчков, длиной до 5 см. Ведут ночной образ жизни. Питаются живыми и мёртвыми растениями или ведут хищный образ жизни. По-английски их называют potato bug («картофельный клоп») или jerusalem cricket («иерусалимский сверчок»). Однако это не настоящие сверчки, они не питаются картофелем, и они не происходят из Иерусалима.
