Astronomische Nachrichten (, ), eden izmed prvih mednarodnih časopisov na področju astronomije,Heinrich Christian Schumacher - mediator between Denmark and Germany; Centre of Scientific Communication in Astronomy, by Jurgen Hamel, pp. 99-120 of Around Caspar Wessel and the Geometric Representation of Complex Numbers (2001), the Proceedings of the Wessel Symposium at The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, Copenhagen, August 11-15, 1998. je leta 1821 ustanovil nemški astronom Heinrich Christian Schumacher. To naj bi bila najstarejša astronomska revija na svetu, ki še vedno izhaja. Schumacher je uredil njenih 31 zvezkov.
V publikaciji danes izhajajo članki s področja solarne fizike, zunajgalaktične astronomije, kozmologije, geofizike in uporabe inštrumentov s teh področij.
Tudi druge astronomske revije so začeli izdajati približno v tem času. Na primer britanska Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS) od leta 1827. Revija Astronomische Nachrichten je vzpodbudila ameriškega astronoma Benjamina Apthorpa Goulda da je leta 1850 v ZDA začel izdajati revijo Astronomical Journal (AJ).Benjamin Apthorp Gould and the founding of the Astronomical Journal, Owen Gingerich, Astronomical Journal, 117:1-5, januar 1999. »Gould se je odločil uporabiti lastna sredstva za začetek izhajanja nove revije podobno kot so bile prestižne nemške Astronomische Nachrichten, tedaj 28. zvezek.«
