Етимологія Назва роду походить з латинського liquor — «рідина», та роду Lactobacillus. Назву можна довільно перекласти як «молочнокисла бактерія з рідини», оскільки більшість видів роду ізолюють з різних рідин — вода, рослинний сік, алкогольні напої.
