Acanthicus hystrix é unha especie de Loricariidae orixinaria das concas dos Amazonas, Tocantins–Araguaia e Orinoco.Chamon, C.C. Pode atoparse a diferentes profundidades do leito rochoso no caudal principal do río en zonas de corrente moderada e forte, malia que tamén pode aparecer en correntes lentas. A especie é relativamente común nos acuarios, mais o seu tamaño de adulto e a súa agresividade territorial requiren dun espazo de auga grande.
