A denominación de director da Royal Mint abrangue os diversos nomes que ao longo da historia tivo o cargo de máxima responsabilidade das reais casas da moeda de Inglaterra e de Escocia, e actualmente da Royal Mint, de Londres.
O título de Master of the Mint outorgóuselle ao máximo responsable do funcionamento dunha casa de moeda. Foi historicamente un cargo propio dos gobernos de Escocia e de Inglaterra, máis tarde de Gran Bretaña e logo do Reino Unido, entre os séculos XVI e XIX. Ata 1699, o nomeamento adoitaba ser vitalicio e o seu titular formaba parte ocasionalmente do gabinete do Goberno.
Durante o interregno (1643-1660), o derradeiro Master of the Mint de Carlos I, Robert Harley, transferiu a súa lealdade ao Parlamento e ficou no cargo. Logo da súa morte en 1656, foi nomeado Aaron Guerdon.
En 1870, esta función fusionouse coa do Ministro de Facenda, polo que o cargo pasou a levar aparrellado, cerimonialmente, o de Master of the Mint.
